  • Holding cultural events for the community and outside visitors

  • Teaching traditional dances to the village and hostel children

  • Touring internationally with professional dance teams and musicians, particularly in Europe and Asia.

  • Building an archive of local dance and music using video, audio recordings, and interviewing specialists.

Chhau Dance

Purulia Chhau Dance is an acrobatic and exciting folk dance which follows classic narratives, usually including a theme of battling good versus evil.

Dancers wear elaborate masks depicting Gods, demons, and animals. You can see them performing strings of flips and hand-springs while donning enormous feathered masks.

These finely-crafted masks are traditionally made by one special village in the district, where that art is their primary source of income.

Chhau Dance is a strong source of pride for Bengali people.
